Hello!

My name is Stephen Son, and I specialize in trading Singaporean stocks from Malaysia. I am a South Korean citizen and currently work as a content analyst in Malaysia. As the salary I receive as an expatriate in Malaysia is significantly higher compared to the local standard, I engage in stock trading as a hobby.

My journey into stock trading began during the COVID-19 pandemic.

1. COVID-19 Pandemic

In February 2020, when WHO declared the COVID-19 pandemic, my previous workplace implemented remote work (Work From Home). Fortunately, our clients were a prominent IT company in the USA, so I did not face job loss. One day during a gathering with colleagues, a friend mentioned that investing in Samsung stock alone could yield significant profits. Intrigued, I began researching Korean KOSPI and NASDAQ stocks online from Malaysia. At that time, the brokerage fees for NASDAQ were relatively high in Malaysia, prompting me to explore stocks available on the Singapore Exchange (SGX).

2. Singapore (SGX - Singapore Exchange)

Singapore is easily accessible from my location in Malaysia, taking about a 5-hour bus journey. I can access news about Singapore through platforms like Facebook and The Strait Times app, making it easier to gather information about SGX stocks. Singapore is a preferred country for me personally, having visited it several times before the pandemic. Therefore, I decided to focus on trading SGX stocks online, considering the limitations of trading Korean stocks in Malaysia.

3. Introduction of Stocks and Investment Reasons

Allow me to introduce the stocks I am currently trading and the reasons behind my investments:

a. SIA (Singapore Airlines)

Singapore Airlines is a renowned airline, often ranked as the world's best airline by SkyTrax, a specialized airline rating organization. Despite the overall downturn in the aviation industry during the pandemic, I saw this as an opportunity. I believed that once the pandemic subsided, the airline industry would rebound, prompting me to start collecting Singapore Airlines stocks

b. Capland Int Com T

This is a REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts) stock, known for its high dividend yield of around 4%. I invested in this stock at the beginning of the year when interest rates were high. Typically, when bond interest rates rise, real estate prices tend to decline. Hence, I saw this as an opportunity to invest in REITs, even though I am currently facing losses.

cIntroduction of shares I have been trading into SGX (Singapore Exchange)  SATS

SATS is a company that handles various services at Changi Airport in Singapore, including catering and ticket services. I bought this stock during the pandemic, anticipating profits after the pandemic. However, the stock price plummeted after SATS acquired World Flight Service at a higher price than expected. Despite the losses, I believe in the potential for SATS's performance improvement, given Changi Airport's rising status as a global hub.

This concludes Part 1 of my Stock Diary. From November onwards, I will disclose my profits daily. Thank you for reading! :)
