Hello everyone, I'm Stephen, a resident of Malaysia. Today, I'm going to share some information about the new MYR 73 Malaysia Airport Departure Tax that will be implemented on June 1st, 2024, and how you can avoid paying it.

1. Malaysia Airport Departure Tax Increase

The Malaysian government has announced that starting June 1st, 2024, all passengers departing or arriving at any Malaysian airport will be charged a MYR 73 Passenger Service Charge (PSC). This applies to passengers traveling to non-ASEAN countries.

The spectrum of the fee is variable

KLIA 1 -> non-ASEAN countries (Pay 73 MYR)

KLIA 1 -> ASEAN countries (Pay 35 MYR

KLIA 2 -> Non-ASEAN countries (Pay 50 MYR

KLIA 2 -> ASEAN countries (Pay 50 MYR

2. Avoid the Tax by Flying Through Changi Airport!

But don't worry, there's a way to avoid paying the MYR 73 airport tax! The solution is to fly through Singapore's Changi Airport. Changi Airport is a world-class airport with excellent service and facilities, and it's also surprisingly affordable.

Let's say you're traveling from my home station (Kerinchi Station) to Korea. Taking the KLIA Express to KLIA costs MYR 56.6, and with the additional MYR 73 departure tax for traveling to Korea, you'll end up paying a total of MYR 129.6. However, if you choose to fly through Singapore, the cost is significantly lower:

Kerinchi Station -> KL Sentral (MYR 51.6) including Bus station in KL sentral
Golden Miles Complex (Nicole Highway Station) -> Changi Airport (approx. MYR 6)
That's a total of only MYR 57.6!

3. Benefits of Flying Through Changi Airport:

- Save on airport taxes from KLIA
- Enjoy world-class service and facilities
- Wide variety of airlines to choose from
- Shopping, dining, and entertainment options
